The North Carolina Railroad Company (NCRR) is one of several partners named in the recent announcement that Raleigh-based Service Offsite Solutions will construct a new manufacturing facility in Sanford, N.C. to make modular floors, walls and roofs for off-site home construction. In total, Service Offsite Solutions will bring an investment of $18 million and 235 new jobs to Lee County, increasing its economic presence across North Carolina.
The process of constructing off-site homes was pioneered in Europe, where it has been utilized for more than 30 years. Service Offsite Solutions will replicate this industry-changing approach to home building and build the first operation of its kind in the United States.
Service Offsite Solutions requires freight rail infrastructure to serve the new facility. Through NCRR’s economic development initiative NCRR Invests, NCRR is investing approximately $300,000 to assist with the construction of a new rail spur that will be utilized by the Atlantic and Western Railway to serve the new manufacturing operation. The new rail modifications will increase activity by 150 additional rail cars each year.
“NCRR is excited for the opportunity to contribute to an effort including Lee County, the City of Sanford, the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina and many others who made this amazing opportunity a reality,” said Carl Warren, NCRR president and CEO. “Partnerships like these are critical in the creation of new jobs and retention of existing employment. This is another huge win for the state, local communities and the people of North Carolina.”
Additional project partners include the North Carolina General Assembly, the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the North Carolina Community College System, Sanford Area Growth Alliance and Duke Energy.
